What is Early American Pewter?

Early American Pewter is an alloy composed mainly of tin with various amounts of copper, zinc, antimony, bismuth, lead and sometimes silver. Restoration of this soft metal requires years of experience and knowledge. Each piece has a unique mixture of metals and the process is time consuming requiring a delicate hand and lots of patience. It was brought from Europe to America and was used for every day folk, where as the elite used silver. Jeff's passion for art and early crafts lead him to studying under the guidance of Frank Powell, one of the most prestigious experts of pewter in the country.  He has found homes for over 6500 pieces since 1988, is a collector, an expert in restoration and appraisal. They currently work together and have for over a decade. Jeff is now considered an expert in pewter.  Jeff feels  fortunate to have worked on some of the most precious and rare American pewter ever made such as several William Will pieces and other makers from the 1700's. Over the last ten years many pieces that Jeff has worked on has been family heirlooms, and many have ended up displayed in churches and museums.  He specializes in high-end early American Pewter and is also happy to work on pewter pieces of sentimental value.  Jeff is also a collector and restored many pieces available for sale on this page.
